UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities


To mark the United Nations (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Trinity House will be lit in purple on Tuesday 3 December and throughout Disability History Month.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been marked by the UN since 1992 and raises awareness of people with disabilities, as well as advocating for their dignity and rights, while increasing understanding of disability issues.

#PurpleLightUp is a global movement that celebrates and raises awareness of the economic contribution made by the 386 million disabled employees around the world.

Meredith Wilkinson, David Gordon and Jo Strange, co-chairs of the DisAbility and Wellbeing Network (DAWN), said: “Each year we join the UN in observing this day to promote the positive contribution people with disabilities make to society.

“On Tuesday, Trinity House will be lit up in purple to raise awareness and reinforce the importance of securing the rights of staff and students with disabilities at ¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ·.”

Disability History Month at ¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ·

¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· is currently celebrating between Thursday 14 November and Friday 20 December 2024, with an exciting and inclusive programme of virtual and in-person events.

¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· supports attendance at Equality, Diversity and Inclusion events, so please do sign up and take time out of your working day to come along.
